The Mans Cave App

The Mans Cave

The Mans Cave was a concept originated long before my time. The men in my family have always had their place of solitude where men could be men and there was no questioning. I now live the city life which means the man cave has been greatly reduced in size. That brought me to create an internet based man cave where all men can join in. Whether geek, gamer, jock, fitness, brewer, BBQ-er, or just looking for a place to read about manly news, you will find a home in the Man Cave

Holy Mackerel Special Golden Ale Beer Review

Welcome back all! Just a quick reminder to check out our new competition and get your entries posted!  We're celebrating craft beer week this week, and we want to get all our fans involved too.  Now for the beer.

Holy Mackerel Special Golden Ale- This beer is different to say the least.  It claims it is a Belgian style golden ale, and while there are some spice notes that are reminiscent of that, the rest of the beer is confusing.  The color and clarity are fantastic.  Deep golden hue, and you can pretty much see right through it.  The aroma is immediately orange, and it remind me more of a strong American Wit style than a Belgian.  The flavor is definitely orange, and some maltiness.  There is a peppery snap to the beer similar to Sam Adams Summer Ale, but this is far less balanced.  Somewhere right in the middle of the taste, there is something really strange.  It almost tastes like the beer has soured.  There is so little hop flavor in it, that I wonder if a little more hops would keep that almost rancid flavor out of the bottle.  The 8.7% ABV hides pretty well, but beyond the strong citrus aromas and flavors, there is much more to be desired for this beer.  At the price which they are putting it out there, there are far better options than this one (See Brooklyn Local #1 review).  Rating 6.5/10

Don't really like beer myself but it's an acquired taste.

Sounds like a semi-passable beer. Might give it a shot next time I'm at a bar that serves it.
