The Mans Cave

The Mans Cave was a concept originated long before my time. The men in my family have always had their place of solitude where men could be men and there was no questioning. I now live the city life which means the man cave has been greatly reduced in size. That brought me to create an internet based man cave where all men can join in. Whether geek, gamer, jock, fitness, brewer, BBQ-er, or just looking for a place to read about manly news, you will find a home in the Man Cave

Ultimate Man Cave Guide Part 2b

Console Wars!
Fist off if you want to save some time and just see a quick chart explaining differences and all then please click the image below so it will open in a new window where you can enlarge the picture.  As for the rest of you that wish to hear The Mans Cave input on what to buy... thank you for valuing our input!
Now onto the actual content... I will first tell you that The Mans Cave recommends you get the Xbox 360 S.  This is the newest Xbox and will fit any hardcore gamer just fine!  If you ask us a serious gamer will laugh at the Wii's graphics and game list.  Don't get us wrong, the Wii is a great machine, but just doesn't really find its place in a Man Cave (unless your kids frequently use your cave).  A last point about the Wii is that they announce a new console coming in 2012.... so you may want to hold off on their "old" model for now.  As for the PS3... well you must have seen the news by now.  The PS3 online network (PSN) has been down for a week now and there are reports of the hackers that attacked the PSN stealing credit information from users!  Other than the PSN killing all PS3 owners the PS3 actually has some killer media services that can bump it into a nice movie and Hulu streamer! The PS3 is also a Blue Ray disc player so throwout your Blue Ray player!  But still we chose the 360 over the PS3!

The 360 now comes standard with wireless adapter built in.  As for media streaming the 360 can stream ESPN, Netflix, and Hulu (Hulu was announced today).  It also has a facebook application to make up for its lack of a web-browser.  Now you do have to pay to play online content, but it is safe to assume that the money you pay (about $4.16 a month, $50 per year) is going towards preventing troubles that the free PSN is seeing now.  The 360 wins overall in the online category and they always will because their users pay for that service.  Also most of you non-360 users talk about the "red ring of death" which is when and Xbox overheated and fried itself... but here's a bit of news... that "red ring" problem ONLY existed on the first model, and years later Microsoft has come out with tremendous improvements to stop overheating.  Also most "red ring" experiences could have been avoided if the user didn't pile stuff on-top of the console to prevent proper ventilation.  Finally we will point out that the Xbox 360 is made by Microsoft as in Microsoft Windows, so almost any media that is on your computer (music, movies, pictures) can be viewed by your 360 without having to hook it up with wires.  So as an ultimate gaming console and all-in-one media streamer the Xbox 360 S wins hands down for us at The Mans Cave!

*Note for the Hulu on Xbox 360... If you download the update to watch Hulu on your Xbox you get, from now till next Friday, a free Hulu Plus membership.  Another side note that our Brewmaster found is that if you sign up with a ".edu" e-mail address that one week free membership gets extended to one month!

Considering what's going on with PS3 atm I wouldn't advice anyone buy it, I heard some stores refuse to take them back because they are getting flooded with them

I had only a wii, sold it for a 360, bought a PS3. Some days I would trade the PS3 for a Wii, but I love Ratchet and Clank too much to do so. But I miss Mario!

I currently have a 360, but my fiancée loves the Wii because of those simple games that everyone loves like Mario. Some people undersell how important some franchise titles (meaning games like Mario and Ratchet and Clank that are only on one console) can be when buying a gaming system. For some people those franchise games are all the difference needed when considering what console to buy.

For my part, I'm really can't wait for Nintendo's new console! It will be announced on E3 in June this year. It's definitely going to make things interesting!
